Pillowcases

(AWARE Project)

Home

Capital City Quilters adopted Juneau's AWARE shelter as their standing charity project.  Members make pillowcases and receiving blankets, then donate them to the shelter.  Women and children receive a pillowcase (or receiving blanket) when they arrive, using it during their stay.  For babies, the pillowcase has double duty as a receiving blanket.  The pillowcases also provide a handy knap-sack for packing items when they leave the shelter.

CCQ member Judy Cole collects donated fabrics or purchases fabrics appropriate for pillowcases.  She uses cotton fabrics, including flannel, with themes for the holidays, boys, girls, babies, teens, and even moms.

Judy donates her time in pre-cutting fabrics to make the pillow cases, then puts them in a kit.  Each pillowcase kit includes fabric for four pillowcases and matching cuffs.  Members pick up a free kit, or can use their own fabrics, to sew pillowcases.  Kits are available at each Guild meeting and at the UFO meeting.  Finished pillowcases can be dropped off during UFO or during the Guild meeting.

Instructions for making the pillowcases are in each member's CCQ Notebook!

CCQ donates over 300 pillowcases to AWARE each year.  For more information, contact Judy Cole.  Her email and phone number are in your CCQ directory, or contact the CCQ President.
