Martha Morris, acting as our Coach, helped CCQ members organize Round Robin Quilts. We met on May 14, and organized two groups: Borders and Applique.
Applique Round Robin:
Bonnie Goodrich, Clare Brooks, Ginger Blaisdell, and Sheila Box.
Round 1 – June/July – The owner will start with a center block, plus one pieced border. This should represent approximately 1/3 of the total size of the quilt (if the maker intends a ‘grid style’ quilt, where items will be added non-symmetrically, a grid should be included indicating the intended placement of the ‘owner’s center piece’). Completed: August 5th – First swap – Sheila Box’s house
Round 2 – August/September – Appliqué round. Either a border
fitting the piece, a turn on point and fill corners, or an appliqué
piece for a section of a grid quilt. Should account for about 1/3
the total size of the quilt.
Round 3 – October/December – Combo border round. Pieced and
appliqué border is added, combining as much or as little of each
technique as seems appropriate. Should account for about 1/3 the
total size of the quilt.
Round 4 – January/February – Border Crossing and Embellishments.
Some element that crosses over or under from one border to the next, or
from the center across one or more borders should be included.
Also, embellishments of some kind are added. These could be
fabric, ribbon, beads, threads, broderie perse, etc.) Should “bring
together” what is already there, may add to last border if
needed/desired and not too far over the final measurement guideline.
Border Round Robin: Charmaine Weeks, Geri Fudge, Janet Parker, Judy Cole, Krisi Hicks, Val Horner
During the Exchange meeting, the quilt will be
passed to the next person in the sequence, ie Charmaine’s center block will
go to Geri to attach the first border, Geri’s goes to Janet, etc.
Alphabetical Trading Sequence:
Charmaine
· Bring border books, if you have any, to each meeting.
· Wash and press all fabrics used in the center block and in the borders! Only use 100% Cotton.
· Applique is optional and left up to the quilter (not prohibited nor required in any border, nor in the center block)
· Center blocks: any size so long as the finished center block can be divided by 2! (ie finished size is 8” square, so the unfinished center block is 8.5 inches square
· Quilt must be totally finished by the “party” proposed for March/April.
· Group will meet approximately every 6 weeks to exchange quilts and discuss techniques, suggestions, etc, for the next border. Whomever’s block is under discussion must leave the room for approximately 15 minutes while the others in the group discuss the next row. (Progress on the quilt is kept secret from the owner.)
